My truth

I was going to write
about how your truth matters
and that no one can take
your truth away from you
But I can’t

There are truths out there
based on lies
There are truths out there
based on predjudice
There are truths out there
based on unequal opportunities

I don’t care about those truths
I want them taken away

No one knows the truth
But everyone knows a lie

The prompt for #OctPoWriMo day 23 is What’s the message. This is what came up for me.

I agree with your second stanza, but I think it doesn’t change the fact that noone can take your trith away from you. It is hidden deep inside, hiding from your ego or the character you’ve built to fit into society’s “truths”, but…
deep inside, your truth is still there, and keeps coming back out, little by little, if you give it room to grow and express itself.
At least that’s been my experience 😊

I love how “truth” is a word that invites so many possibilities. Is truth a shared story? A pure, inner knowledge deep inside? A construction? Something described by science?

Does one’s truth remain the same throughout life? Does it change?

I’ve always cared about the truth, long before I knew what a challenging subject it is.

Good poem, Angela. Your whole second stanza rings true. I’m older now and reading history that was/is omitted from textbooks. So much of what we thought, and were taught, was true is based on lies, prejudice, and inequality. Thank you. xoA

Angela, I love the part about everyone knows a lie. Our truths are deeply held within us. Some are universal and never change, some change as we change. Lies are lies.
