Excerpt from the ballad of reading goal

Scarlet trial men drifting in pain
Grey witless despair, souls tramped
Adder-bitten bears danced sightless
Dripping anguish

Twice the hangman’s lips be moved
for worldlings to outcast sin
Hard fear rose
Twice his soul said: pity, brother

Bleeding hymns, shuffling gloom
Empty fear seemed endless

No chaplain kept us
We, the unblessed, the unreproachful

The suggested form for #OctPoWriMo day 18 was a black out poem. That means to take a page of a book and colour it black, except the words you want to form the poem. I picked up a book and opened it at random. It got me Oscar Wilde. From the ballad of reading goal.
