Boxing day

The box was in the corner
Lurking, lonely, lost
It’s wrapping paper partly torn and wrinkled
Mostly straight as it could be

A sulking silhouette in the other corner
Green with envy, grey with tears
Lines in a face unnoticed
Don’t you ever look at me?

Who thought opening you wasn’t worth their while?
Who took you for a grant?
Who closed up on your promise?
Who cornered you?
